New Music: Babylon with SZA Featuring Kendrick Lamar

No, the new Kendrick Lamar album is still not here, but you can hear Kendrick featured on a new single by SZA called Babylon. This track is tight! Both Kendrick Lamar and Chance the Rapper are the big names on the Z EP by SZA (say that three times fast!), but Emile Hayne, DJ Dahi, Mac Miller and Toro Y Moi all helped with production in one way or another. According to an article at Spin, two of K-Dot’s lines include  “I ain’t have nothing to lose / My dark side been running tuned.”

The track is really spaced out – in a good way. You’d expect something like this from the Black Hippy crowd and this song doesn’t disappoint. What’s cool is that the song was actually released last month. With new work, however, this remix is quickly becoming popular on the internet. The original was really “out there” but by adding some Hiii Power via Kendrick Lamar, the song’s aural harmonies take the whole thing to the next level.

According to the Styleite blog:

SZA happens to be bothTop Dawg Entertainment‘s only female artist and one of its hottest talents, weaving her own gauzy vocals into otherworldly soundscapes. To celebrate the EP, she’s has dropped a new version of previously-unveiled Lamar-featuring track ‘Babylon‘. “

Over at Billboard, they go into a little more depth about SZA and the track featuring Kendrick Lamar.

“Z” sounds like the future, or at least SZA’s vision of one — a genre agnostic utopia dripping with mood and SZA’s own gossamer vocals. “Z” straddles the line between minimalist R&B, ’80s synth pop and soul. It sounds like Jill Scott in a pillow fight with Jessy Lanza. It sounds like a Frank Ocean fever dream.

The rest of that article goes into how SZA hooked up with Top Dawg Entertainment and also explains what she brings to the table – which is a lot of talent. Having said that, Kendrick Lamar being featured on the track is some of the reason this song is getting so much attention right now.

Here’s the song on YouTube so you can check it out yourself.

Kendrick sounds great on his verse. If you agree (or disagree), leave a comment below and let us know what your thoughts.

Kendrick Lamar at Music Festival In Jimmy Fallon’s Hometown

Kendrick Lamar headlining with Modest Mouse? You bet! Over at XXL Magazine, they have an article about K-Dot being one of the main headliners at a music festival in Jimmy Fallon’s hometown. Good Kid M.A.A.D City dropped in 2012, but Kendrick is still riding that wave.

We’ve talked about TDE releasing a new album soon, but for now it’s still about performing live for Kendrick Lamar. He knows how to show people the truth of Hiii Power in action. If you haven’t seen one of his shows live, this is a good one to see at the Hudson Project Music and Art Festival at Winston Farm in Saugerties.

If you’ve not heard of the festival before, you’re not alone! However, if you take a look at all the different musicians and bands that are going to be performing, it’s easy to see that the Hudson Project Music and Art Festival is actually a pretty big deal. And it’s an honor for Kendrick Lamar to be headlining.

Here’s a look at the rest of the lineup for the show.

Also on the roster: STS9, Moby, Big Gigantic, Excision, Atmosphere, Matt & Kim, Flying Lotus, Capital Cities, Rebelution, Bonobo, The New Deal, Dr Dog, Infected Mushroom, Holy Ghost, GRiZ, Lettuce, Paper Diamond, Tipper, Savoy, Twin Shadow, Nightmares on Wax, Cults, Bro Safari, ZZ Ward, Conspirator, Araab Muzik, Gold Panda, Emancipator, Flatbush Zombies, Kill Paris, Robert Delong, The Soul Rebels, Keys N Krates, Kap Slap, Yacht, Jon Hopkins, Luminox, Oliver, Tokimonsta, Kygo, Odesza, Kastle, Project 46, Thomas Jack, The Floozies, The Range, Marco Benevento Trio, Chrom Sparks, Audrey Napoleon, Twiddle and Tauk

Of course we think that Kendrick Lamar is the best musician performing, but everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. Leave us a comment about the best live Kendrick Lamar show you’ve seen – or one you’re thinking about going to in the near future. When it comes to K-Dot, you really have to see him perform in person if you claim to be a fan. Listening to him on the radio or online is nice, but nothing compares to one of his live shows, you know?

New Music: Alicia Keys ‘It’s On Again’ Feat. Kendrick Lamar

While Kendrick Lamar’s new album for 2014 hasn’t dropped yet, TDE management has said to be patient because it’s on the way. For now, if you’re looking for some new Kendrick Lamar, you can check out Alicia Keys singing ‘It’s On Again’ featuring Kendrick Lamar. It’s not as good as a complete track by Kendrick Lamar, of course, but for fans of his music, it’s always good to hear him whenever possible. And Alicia Keys isn’t a bad singer at all. Some might say that Kendrick made her song better. You can include us in that camp!

“I’m very excited to be a part of such a powerful collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell Williams and Hans Zimmer,” Keys said in a press release recently. “This is the next chapter in the ‘Spider-Man’ legacy and we really feel ‘It’s On Again’ captures the experience, the story — and most importantly — the meaning behind the film, which is that we all have the potential to be extraordinary. There’s a little bit of a super hero in all of us.”

If you ask us, Kendrick Lamar is the super hero of Rap – East Coast AND West Coast. If you disagree, please feel free to leave a comment and let us know why. Even if you’re not a fan of the new Amazing Spider-Man movies, we think you should take the time to check out her new single. We went through the work and found a copy on Soundcloud. If you look around, you’re going to be able to find it yourself. Or you can just go the the Apple music store and grab a copy of it.

Speaking of spending money to support Kendrick Lamar, be sure to check out our latest Kendrick Hiii Power gear over at the shop. We have a bunch of new styles you should check out. As you know, t-shirt weather is almost here again and there’s nothing like having some fresh Kendrick Lamar gear. Anyway, while we’re probably not going to be watching the new Spider-Man 2 movie that’s coming out, it’s good to see other artists like Alicia Keys working with up and coming talent like Kendrick Lamar.

Kendrick Lamar Came Up In The Oscar Pistorius Murder Trial?

Say what? Over at Hip Hop Wired, they have a write up about Kendrick Lamar being talked about at the Oscar Pistorius trial over in South Africa. He’s that guy known as Blade Runner because he ran in the Olympics even though he only has prosthetic legs.

Anyway, it was a bit odd that Kendrick came up during his murder trial, but it was interesting enough we thought we should mention it and see what K-Dot’s fans think of the situation. As you probably know, Oscar’s being charged with shooting and killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, about a year ago.

Basically, Kendrick Lamar’s Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe came up in some text message evidence brought up in the trial, which has been going on for a while now. The whole thing was a bit random, but CNN was on the case and mentioned it on their website in a report.

Here’s what CNN posted about the court mentions of K-Dot.

“I’m scared of you sometimes and how u snap at me and of how you will react to me. You make me happy 90% of the time and I think we are amazing together but I am not some other b*tch you may know trying to kill your vibe. I am the girl who let go with u even when I was scared out of my mind to. I’m the girl who fell in love with u and wanted to tell u this weekend. But I’m also the girl that gets sidestepped when you are in a sh*t mood.” -

Oscar went on to explain what he really meant.

“I was upset that you just left me after we got food to go talk to a guy and I was standing right behind you watching you touch his arm and ignore me. And when I spoke up you introduced me which you could’ve done but when I left you just kept on chatting to him when clearly I was upset. I asked Martin to put on that Kendrick Lamar album in the car and don’t know it. Granted that it was a sh*t song but you should’ve just lent forward and whispered in my ear to change it seeing as I had to drive to pick up your friend.”

What do you think? Leave a comment below then go check out the latest Kendrick Lamar gear we have up for sale. Peace and Hiii Power.

Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul & Jay Rock Projects Are “Coming Soon”

Waiting patiently for the next Kendrick Lamar album? Well, the wait is almost over according to the Top Dawg at TDE, Anthony Tiffith. According to HipHopDX, he’s telling fans to “be patient” and has said that several Top Dawg Ent. releases are “coming soon.” We’re hoping it’s sooner rather than later as it’s been a while since Kendrick has put out something entirely new. Then again, you have to give the man a break because he’s been grinding HARD. In 2013, he was named the hardest working rapper because of the traveling he’d done for shows all over the world. He traveled more miles than any other rapper.

As you probably know, ScHoolboy Q’s Oxymoron sold a whopping 138,950 copies in its FIRST week. That was enough to earn him the #1 spot on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart. Now, if ScHoolboy Q can do that well with his album release, just think for a minute about what Kendrick Lamar’s gonna be able to do. We’re sure he has a lot bigger fan base, and the fans have been waiting a while for something new from him to come out. The only real questions is whether or not the new tracks will live up to all the hype. If you ask us, we think they will because Kendrick Lamar knows what he’s doing. He’s more talented that a lot of other rappers because of his Hiii Power.

Here’s what the Top Dawg at TDE Tweeted last Thursday:

“@justsza Z 4.8.14, @abdashsoul ,@jayrock and @kendricklamar coming soon be patient…#TDE #0XYMORON #CilviaDemo OUT NOW,”

You’ve probably already heard the Oxymoron album (we LOVE it), but the real news is going to be when Kendrick Lamar drops his next hit record. How do we know it’s going to be a hit? Well, all you need to do is take a look at K-Dot’s track record, and you’re going to see that he has what it takes to make good music. Period. If you agree or disagree, leave a comment below. And remember, if you’re a true Kendrick Lamar fan, you’re going to be sporting Kendrick Gear as often as possible.
