Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole album : both artists working on other projects

Take the case of the highly anticipated but still a pipe dream joint album between hip-hop stars Kendrick Lamar and J.Cole. Talks about a collaboration between the two has been going around since Lamar revealed in 2015 that he wanted to work with Cole. However, there have been rumors that the two have been kicking the idea around since 2011.

There were reports that the album, said to be titled “Out the Sky,” would drop sometime in 2016. But with only a few months left in the year and Lamar and Cole continuously busy with their own projects, the chances of hip-hop fans getting their hands on this album are dwindling day by day.

Fans of the two artists are admittedly disappointed by the fact that the vaunted collaboration hasn’t happened yet but, as TDE president Dave Free previously explained to MTV News, “these are two geniuses…It takes a long time for one of them to get in a space to create a song…it takes a lot of time and energy.”

There’s also the fact that both Lamar and Cole have their own lives, projects, and individual challenges. Aside from working on his own songs and side projects, Lamar has been dealing with some legal issues. He’s also preparing a series of shows set for the end of September. As for Cole, the rapper recently had two of his singles certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

With everything that the two artists are involved in, it’s no wonder that they can’t really find the time to head to the studio and hash out a joint album. As Dreamville Records president Ibrahim Hamad told Rap Radar, even though Cole said the album would drop in 2016 they already knew that it “was a stretch.”
