As you know, we think that Kendrick Lamar is the king of Hip Hop currently. All you have to do is listen to his music or read the news and you’ll see that he has the talent as well as the determination to make it. Over at Rolling Stone, they have a round-up of Kendrick’s performance recently at the iHeartRadio award show last Thursday in Los Angeles. If you missed the show, you missed a good one.
“In the memory of Tupac Shakur, I need everybody to put one hand up right now; I need everybody to put two hands up right now,” Lamar shouted at one point, and the crowd went wild. What came next was one of the best covers of California Love of all time. (Disagree? Leave a comment and let us know why!) Seriously, this was a performance that really shows Kendrick Lamar knows what he’s doing and is on his way up.
Compton has a special place in K-Dot’s heart. No matter how big he gets, he’s never going to forget where he came from originally. The streets of Compton are tough, but they managed to produce the singing sensation known as Kendrick Lamar. After singing California Love, he had a segue into m.A.A.d. city, which caused the fans to go even wilder.
He really manages to honor Tupac Shakur, Eazy E, and Nate Dogg, fallen soldiers who did a lot for the rap game. Kendrick appeared to have a lot of fun doing the show, but the words he had to say about Tupac and others who are no longer with us goes to show that he’s not all about himself. The whole scene was drenched in Hiii Power as the king of Hip Hop continued to show the world while he deserves the crown.
Here’s a look at his California Love performance on YouTube.
