Kendrick Lamar Responds To Macklemore’s Grammy Text

Kendrick Lamar Responds

According to an article over at the MTV website, Kendrick Lamar has finally seen fit to respond to Macklemore’s Grammy text.  Kendrick has admitted that he was a little “surprised” by the message he got from Mackelmore, but he also called him “…such a genuine dude.” Yeah, that sounds like the Kendrick Lamar we all know and love. When it comes to Hiii Power, it’s all about forgiveness and acceptance of life so that you can move forward in a positive direction.

What’s taking some people by surprise is the fact that Kendrick lobbed quite a few lyrical “grenades” at a lot of other rappers. He even went as far as to declare himself King of New York, something that made a few rappers mad. If you know Kendrick, though, you know that was all about marketing – part of his master plan. If you noticed, every time he rapped about another rapper, he got a ton of press in the media. You don’t think that helped him sell copies of his songs and albums?

Here’s what they wrote on the MTV website:

In a cover story with Billboard, the TDE rapper finally addressed the apology “That text surprised me, but Macklemore is a genuine dude,” Lamar said, diplomatically. “However it panned out, I wish him much success. He touched people’s souls, and no one can take that away. Really, the whole Grammy moment was incredible. Not everyone gets that shot.”

Here’s what Macklemore texted to Kendrick Lamar after the Grammy Awards this year:

“You got robbed. I wanted you to win. You should have. It’s weird and sucks that I robbed you. I was gonna say that during the speech. Then the music started playing during my speech, and I froze. Anyway, you know what it is. Congrats on this year and your music. Appreciate you as an artist and as a friend. Much love.”

This is certainly not the “Gangsta Rap” a lot of people grew up with, but this is a good thing if you ask us. Hip Hop (and rap) doesn’t have to be all about boobs, weed and the thug life. In fact, a lot of rappers who are steering clear of that kind of nonsense are actually doing better than the thuggish rappers who think they’re criminals – or at least want to pretend like they’re criminals.

What do you think? Should Kendrick Lamar have said something else to Macklemore or did he nail it on the head? If you’re a fan of Hiii Power, leave a comment and let us know what you think below. This is likely going to be another huge year for K-Dot, and we can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeve next. We’re thinking he’s going to keep touring a lot and then drop another new album on the world.
