Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q Share ACL Fest Stage

Kendrick Lamar has been the undeniable highlight of Austin City Limits Music Festival 2016 so far. The Los Angeles rapper, following a performance by his TDE label mate ScHoolboy Q, closed out the festival Saturday night on the Samsung Stage.

His was a much more exciting finale compared to Radiohead’s great but extremely chill headlining set the previous night. With only one day left and the big sets happening today by LCD Soundsystem and Mumford & Sons, it’s probably safe to say Lamar’s performance will go down as the best of the weekend.

“I see a lot of people that’ve been rocking with me since day one,” Lamar said about the crowd. He played ACL back in 2013 but this was his first time headlining the annual Austin festival, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary. He definitely proved himself more than capable of commanding the top spot.

Lamar opened with “untitled 07 | 2014 – 2016,” a track from his recent compilation of unreleased demos, “untitled unmastered.” One thing the seven-time Grammy Award winner’s ACL performance showed was just how many great and powerful songs he has made in such a short period of time.
