The sounds of the NBA Finals

The NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers is underway with the Warriors up 2-0 in the series. The NBA Finals is the biggest event in the NBA and it is only right to see what connections NBA players have with hip-hop.

Two of the biggest stars in the NBA are facing each other in the NBA Finals. Lebron James and Stephen Curry are once again playing in the NBA Finals after the Warriors beat the Cavaliers last year to secure their first championship in 40 years. Both artists are the opposite of each other and so are their favorite artists.

Stephen Curry is known for his incredible shooting and ball handling skills whereas James is known more for his dunking and posting up players in the paint. And it would make sense that their favorite artists are also rivals. Curry has been seen hanging out with rapper Drake often. Drake also references Curry’s names in his songs and gave him the moniker “Chef Curry.”

Lebron’s favorite artist is Drake’s rival Kendrick Lamar. Lamar’s latest album “untitled, unmastered” was released party due to Lebron’s request. After hearing Kendrick’s latest performance at the Grammy’s, Lebron went on Twitter and asked TDE’s CEO Anthony Tiffith to release Kendrick’s unreleased songs and his wish was granted.

Other players in the NBA Finals that listen to hip-hop are Warriors’ center Draymond Green and Cavaliers’ point guard Kyrie Irving. Green has said in the past that he likes to listen to 2 Chainz but usually listens to slow jams to counteract his hyper personality. Irving also listens to Drake and became a fan of French Montana after “Pop That” was released.
